I have returned to the slow process of photo identification. In an effort to make progress, I decided to take a different approach. Instead of trying to attack them as a whole, I am taking one photo at a time and comparing it to photos that were identified by Dad or another Lax family member. The first ‘new’ photo I was able to identify using this method is the last one on this page. At least I think/hope that I have…if you are a family member who has more knowledge, please let me know. Also, who is the younger woman in the photo with her?
Margaret Elizabeth Ralls was my 2nd great grandmother. She was born on January 25, 1857. She was a child during the American Civil War and her father Edward was killed at Shiloh on April 6, 1862 leaving her mother, Sarah, with 6 your children. (Note: I am still working to gather paper proof of the children.)
Margaret married Benjamin Franklin Wilson on August 10, 1879, in Henry, Tennessee and they had 8 children. She died on May 6, 1944, in Henry, Tennessee, at the age of 87, and was buried in Henry County, Tennessee.
The photo below is my Grandmother Learlye’s sister, Earline Lax, with Margaret. She was identified in this photo by my Dad. Earline looks around 10 here so I a guessing this is circa 1930.
Dad identified the ladies in the photo below as Granny Ralls, May Wilson, Maggie Lax Adams, Meta Knight, and the baby as Kenny Eastwood.
The photo below is a new one to my archive. It was located in a file box that was labeled ‘very old genealogy files’. This was located in one of the photo albums that I am slowly working my way through along with many other notes and newspaper clippings related to the Lax and Wilson families. I am tentatively labeling it as Margaret Ralls. If I had to guess this would be from the 1940s very near to her time of death. If you have know who is sitting next to her, please let me know!
